I know! I know!

I think Bush wants to see how low he can go with his approval ratings. Take this "immigration" "initiative," with 6,000 national guard troops at the border. Too few, obviously, to stop poor, desperate migrants. Enough, however, to upset every constituency involved.

I mean, he should have some accomplishments he can call unique and his own, no?

Yes. That’s a good insight. I have heard Republicans say that this fall’s elections will not be as bad for the Republicans as many expect because they have the immigration issue. One important reason why Bush got re-elected in '04 was because the country is becoming more and more like the traditional South.

Growing-up and living in the South, I can not count the number of times a candidate in trouble would inject racial controversies to secure white votes. White voters would become polarized and vote for the most racist candidate.

So, sending 6,000 troops to the border is as old a game as is southern politics and the Republicans probably hope that the results are just what you predict. Everybody will become angry.

Actually though there is more to the border story than meets the eye. KBR (Kellog Brown & Root), a Halliburton subsidiary) has won a no bid contract to provide detention for all the illegal immigrants caught.

Since Halliburton is a company Dick Cheney is heavily involved in with huge stock options I see a huge profit motive for Bushco.

This may appear to be an issue that is really devisive or even a game but dirty politics, greed and profit are a bigger issue here.

Scraping the bottom of the toilet bowl by terrorising illegal immigrants in another Guantanamo type detention center is quite an accomplishment, eh?
