Unequal Lives

Comment left on my last post by the Rambling Taoist:

"If an American is only concerned about his nation, he will not be concerned about the peoples of Asia, Africa, or South America. Is this not why nations engage in the madness of war without the slightest sense of penitence? Is this not why the murder of a citizen of your own nation is a crime, but the murder of citizens of another nation in war is an act of heroic virtue?" Martin Luther King Jr. 1963

So if America cares only about itself - then why does it give more money to foreign aid than all of the other nations in the world combined?

People like you can't seem to recognize that...All I see is the negative on your site.

We do more good than anyone else. All it seems anyone else chooses to do is throw rocks. Quit spewing venom with your mouth and get out there and help people. Then maybe you won't be so quick to criticize.

And you act like the people we're going after are good people - they're not. They're criminals of the worst possible kind. People who really do spread death and hate wherever they go.

If it were possible to never kill innocents, we would be embracing that wholeheartedly. The unfortunate truth is that these evil people (and lets be real - Al-Zawahiri is the real terrorist) hide themselves among children (like the cowards they are).

I'm sure there is remorse that innocents were killed, and there will be accountability. Nothing can bring those people back to life. This is war - people die in war. Often innocent people die in wars of all kinds. Believe it or not, America is doing all it can to avoid civillian casualties.

This is not a war America started. People like Al-Zawahiri started it. America suffered 8 prior attacks before Sept 11th with no military response. Wars today don't have a clear battlefield like they used to. This is a global conflict.

America will not rest until Al-Qaida is destroyed - just like they won't rest until we are. It's a fight to the death - and America will win.

Hey Will It's time to wake up from whatever fantasy land your living in.

First of all you are not criticizing Zeynep’s comments. You are Criticizing the great words of desegregationist, civil rights leader, and peace activist, Dr. Martin Luther King.

Your problem is that you can not comprehend Dr. Kings message of peace and non-violence. Your comment is the epitome of what Dr. King is talking about, the lack of concern of people from other nations. You justify the killing of innocent people to kill insurgents who are as you define them “People who really do spread death and hate wherever they go”.

I wish people like you would wake up so we don’t have to repeat the mistakes of Vietnam in Iraq (which we have already done).

Next of all the rest of comment is filled with propaganda myths fed to you by the main stream media.

Among them this is the biggest myth in your comment , “the War in Iraq was to fight terrorism”. This is definitely wrong, before the Iraq war there were no terrorist organizations in Iraq. And Iraq had not ties to Al Qaida. The US pre-emotively invaded Iraq on fabricated lies of weapons of mass destruction. Why were the lies fabricated? Clearly you don’t care and clearly you know nothing of president Bush’s Downing Street memo. If you do then you would know the real reason we invaded Iraq, which is spelled out in black and white in the memo.

a response to #1 comment--"We give more than any one else." I just read " Confessions of an Economic Hit Man", that pretty well explains that in my mind. If you find his propositions hard to believe, possibly you haven't read enough. What has the CIA been up to for the last 50 years? Who killed Arbenz, Torrijos, Wellstone.........? We need to look at ourselves with a more critical eye, and not just blame 'the foreigners.'
