The Inspectors Were Withdrawn, Not Kicked Out. The Inspectors Were Withdrawn, Not Kicked Out. The Inspectors Were Withdrawn, Not Kicked Out.
From today's AP report on the possible return of the IAEA inspectors to Iraq:
Instead, they [the inspectors] will be performing a routine task that even Iraq's ousted President Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) allowed the U.N. agency to carry out after barring U.N. weapons inspectors from Iraq in the wake of U.S. and British bombing raids in December 1998.
This lie has been refuted so many times that it gets tiresome to constantly correct it. I suppose that's the difficulty of correcting problems that are caused by structural factors; the lies naturally propagate while efforts to correct them are time-consuming and difficult. Over time, the liars overwhelm the truth-tellers. And the biggest lies are the big picture lies, which are much harder to correct than these smaller, factual lies. A big lie takes a sentence; a proper refutation might need take a book.
On the lighter side, El-Baradei wants to play house:
"The return of international inspectors to Iraq is considered necessary, not to search for the weapons of mass destruction, but so the agency can write a final report on the non-presence of weapons of mass destruction so the international community can lift sanctions on Iraq," ElBaradei said.
Uh-huh. Right. "International community." "Lift sanctions". "On Iraq." How quaint, ye olde chap.

This lie about the inspectors being barred by Iraq rather than having been withdrawn by the Clinton Administration has been repeated so many times. It is infuriating to say the least. The Bush lackies just keep lying and repeating the same lies over and over and over. This reminds me of your recent post regarding some right wing dunkerhead woman who was interviewing Anonymous, the CIA agent named Michael, who wrote the recently-released book criticizing the Bush-43 regime's handling of the 9-11 crisis both before and after the fact. She asked him a question. He answered it. She ignored his answer and reinvented it in terms of her own prejudiced bias. It doesn't seem to matter what anyone actually says as it seems like it will always be distorted and misquoted by the puppet, mainstream press to fit the conventional powerpoint lies being repeated over and over by the Bush-43 Adminstration.
It is very frustrating to have to encounter these multitudinous lies over and over again ad nauseum. If a lie is told enough times, an uninformed and ill-informed public will begin to believe the lies. Look how many Americans still believe the 9-11/Saddam connection in spite of no evidence at all to support such a premise.
Sincerely,
Old & In The Way

Also on Tuesday--the president at a campaign event in Cedar Rapids, Iowa repeated his rhetorical question/canard:
"What did he have to hide, the free world was saying to themselves. Why would he [Saddam] not allow inspectors in? See, he was a threat. He made the choice; not the United States of America. He defied the world."
